Krzysztof Penderecki: Sinfonietta for strings
Krzysztof Penderecki: Symphony No. 3 – Movement III: Adagio
Krzysztof Penderecki: Trumpet Concerto – Hungarian premiere
Beethoven: Symphony No. 7 in A major, Op. 92
Featuring: Gábor Boldoczki – trumpet
Conductor: Krzysztof Penderecki
Considered a radical innovator in the 1960s, by the 1990s Polish composer and conductor Krzysztof Penderecki took more interest in the past, than the future. Since the 1980s, his compositions have been marked by a neo-Romantic, sometimes neo-Classicist, highly accessible, eclectic mood and a strong emotional charge, as well as the clean refinement of established masters.
His Sinfonietta, completed in 1991, references Bartók. Written for the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra, the 1995 Symphony No. 3 is strongly related to Bruckner’s and Mahler’s traditions of the genre. The Trumpet Concerto is a very fresh composition, being premiered by phenomenal Hungarian trumpeter Gábor Boldoczki in October 2015.
The instrument of this pre-eminent artist, it has been claimed, sounds as clear, natural and flexible as bel canto singing; one can hardly have enough of the beauty and consummate artistry of his performance.
