With their chamber opera, Zombola, Vizin, and Gergye offer a contemporary interpretation of the mythological story of Echo and Narcissus, her hopeless yearning for the man who is in love with his own mirror image. Echo is caught in a trap, where she can no longer say her own words, and is compelled to repeat what her love says.
The one-act opera is a play-within-the play, as it were, with a singer entrapped by the stage and losing her way among the roles. She wonders in the labyrinth of her own mind, now as Echo, now as Narcissus, now as her own mirror image. In the contrast of mythological timelessness and personal time, the singer brings to life her own reflection, Adele, and thus her monologue becomes a dialogue for her own redemption.
